i used to have a necklace.
it was small and dainty and on it it said survivor.
i had a friend who was very triggered that i wore it. often they told me “you didn’t survive anything. you have no right to wear that.”
and i think they were wrong.
i believe that we are all survivors.
i believe that every day we breathe we are surviving.
we survive heartbreak, disappointment, fear, anxiety, depression, hurt, and so much more.
every second we breathe we have survived something.
and it may not be as big as some people expect, but it is just as valid and important.
you are a survivor.
you deserve to wear that with pride
no matter what.
i wore my necklace to remind myself that i am strong and brave, and i can survive whatever comes my way,
and you deserve the same.
so find something, whether it is a song you listen to once a day, a mantra, a piece of jewelry, anything.
find something that reminds you that you are strong and brave and bold that
you
are
a
survivor
and wear it with pride.
